Apple OS updates bring Messages syncing!

Are you frustrated that texts in your Messages apps do not match between your Apple devices and that you have to delete a conversation on each device separately to totally get rid of a conversation?

Your frustrations are over.  Apple has finally released a fix to this frustration.  Both Mac and iOS updates were released last week.  They are macOS 10.13.5 and iOS 11.4.  Here is how to install them and set up syncing:

On your iPad and iPhone:

  1. Settings > General > Software Update (remember to restart and backup your device before doing this!!).  Follow the instructions to update your iOS.
  2. Once updated, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud and turn Messages ON.

On your Mac:

  1. Apple menu > App Store > Updates (tab) (remember to restart and backup your Mac before doing this!!).  Follow the instructions to update you Mac.
  2. Once updated, open the Messages app (in Finder > Applications or on your Dock).  Go to Messages > Preferences > Accounts (tab) and on the left side choose iMessage.  Check the box next to “Enable Messages in iCloud”.

Within a few minutes all of your Messages conversations will be identical between your devices.  Also, when you delete a conversation it is deleted on all of your devices.

Note that this does require iCloud storage.  If you are still on Apple’s free 5GB storage plan this will probably necessitate you upgrade to their 50GB plan for $0.99/month.
